This guide provides comprehensive instructions on the installation and use of the reference management software EndNote 20.

Navigating EndNote 20/21

The EndNote screen is split into three main areas or panels, in the centre, on the left and on the right.

  • Centre panel: The centre panel of the screen lists your references. You can sort them by clicking on the column headings. The icons across the top of the centre panel are shortcuts to popular commands and are also accessible from the toolbar.  There is also a search bar to search your references.

  • Right panel:  Click any reference in the centre panel to view the reference's details in the right panel. This panel has three tabs across the top and a preview section at the bottom of the Summary tab which can be opened by clicking the drop down arrow.
    • Summary tab: Offers a quick view of the information written in every field for the reference.
    • Edit tab: Allows you to edit the information in any field.
    • PDF tab: Displays any attached PDF as well as providing annotation tools.
    • Preview section: Accessed in the Summary tab, see how the reference will look in APA 7th edition format.

  • Left panel: The panel on the left of the screen displays folders and groups.
