EndNote Guide / APA Referencing Guide

This guide provides comprehensive instructions on the installation and use of the reference management software EndNote.

Which fields are required to create audio references in EndNote?

Important instructions:

  • Capitalise the first word in the title and for a two-part title also capitalise the first word of the second part.  Proper nouns in the title require the first letter to be capitalised e.g. The lord of the rings: The fellowship of the ring.
  • Very specific steps must be taken in order for references in Word to include the bracketed position descriptors required by APA 7th for a podcast, e.g. Glass, I. (Host).  Enter the Surname first, double comma, intials, full stop, contributor role descriptor in brackets.  If there are multiple individuals with the same contributor role discriptor only use the discriptor on the last name.

  • When a podcast series spans multiple years, separate the years with an dash e.g. 2005-2010.  If the series is still airing, replace the second year with the word present e.g. 2015-present.
  • For music albums there may be more that one publisher include all publishers in the reference.  For an album the publisher is the production company. Separate multiple production companies with a semicolon in the publisher field.
  • If the producer's name is more than one word the name must be followed by a comma (e.g. WBEZ Chicago,).  Failure to add a comma will result in the entry being abbreviated (e.g. W. Chicago).
